The challenge

The previous website had 4 competing CTAs, a 7-field form and a hidden services page. The owner received few calls, and the ones that did come in were low quality.

What we did

We chose Astro + custom JavaScript logic for Mueveme because we needed an online quote calculator for service businesses that reacted to user inputs (square metres, number of rooms, floors with or without lift, distance) and showed an indicative price range in real time, without reloading the page. WordPress with Contact Form 7 was too slow for this, and an off-the-shelf calculator plugin pushed unnecessary JavaScript onto every page. Astro with custom logic and client interactivity let us ship a static, fast site that still runs an interactive quote widget only where needed.

The calculator is implemented as an Astro island, hydrated only on the /quote page. It prices based on three main variables (estimated volume, distance from Tarragona, access difficulty) plus modifiers for extra services (packing, storage, estate clearance). The price range updates with a 200ms debounce so we don't recompute on every keystroke. On confirm, the quote is emailed to the Mueveme team and the user is offered a one-click call or WhatsApp with the summary pre-filled — exactly the dynamic quote form on website that filters leads before any human contact.

Flat-page architecture for SEO: Home (calculator featured, testimonials), Removals (flat, office, small move), Clearances (estate, flat, commercial), Quote (the calculator), Coverage (per municipality in Tarragona) and Contact. Fixed header with a tapable phone number and a floating WhatsApp button on every page, same pattern as AH Hogar. LocalBusiness + Service schema per move type with indicative pricing (`PriceSpecification` with `minPrice` and `maxPrice`) so Google can show the range directly in rich results.

Results: monthly calls from the site quadrupled versus the previous site, with average time to contact under 30 seconds. The instant quote calculator closed 18% of leads without any prior phone call — the customer saw the range, accepted it and booked directly. Reusable pattern: any service with variable pricing (removals, renovations, cleaning by square metre, events) benefits from Astro islands for interaction without heavy JavaScript on the rest of the site. A website with instant quote for conversions reduces friction, qualifies the lead before contact and lifts the close rate.

Attributed stack and why

We chose Astro + custom logic for Mueveme because we needed an instant quote calculator that reacts to user inputs (square metres, floors, distance) without reloading the page. Astro lets us load JavaScript only where it is needed (islands architecture), so the rest of the website stays static and fast, but the calculator is interactive and closes quotes without the customer having to call.

Frequently asked technical questions

How do I add a quote calculator to my website?
A web quote calculator can be implemented in three ways: WordPress plugin (faster but loads unnecessary JS on the whole site), generic JS library like React/Preact embedded (more control), or custom development with Astro islands (more efficient). For services with variable pricing (moving, renovations, events), a custom Astro calculator converts better than a WordPress form: the user sees the range before submitting, which filters out unqualified leads.
What is Astro islands architecture?
Astro islands architecture is a partial hydration pattern: the website is static HTML by default, and only interactive components (calculator, complex form, video player) are hydrated as independent JavaScript "islands". Result: a site with rich interactivity that loads almost like a static page. It is ideal for services where only 5-10% of the page needs JS, but that 5% makes the difference between conversion and abandonment.
How do you make a website interactive without heavy JavaScript?
The trick is isolating the interactivity. A whole site made in React or Vue loads JavaScript for everything (menus, animations, scrolls, forms), even though 90% is static. With Astro you only hydrate the interactive parts (a calculator, a price slider, a complex form) and the rest stays as static HTML. Result: sites with rich interactivity that load in under 1 second. The user does not notice the technical difference, but they notice the speed.
How much does it cost to develop a custom online calculator?
A custom online calculator with variable pricing logic costs between 600€ and 2,500€ depending on complexity: number of variables, calculation rules, email or CRM integration, custom design. The investment pays for itself quickly if the qualified lead that now closes directly without a call is 1-2 per month (saves commercial time) or if conversion rises 10-30% by reducing first-contact friction. For B2C services with variable pricing it is usually profitable from the first month.
Does an online quote calculator convert more than a form?
Yes, a calculator converts more than a form for one key psychological reason: the user gets something in exchange for their inputs (an indicative price range) before committing to sending the form. This inverts the asymmetry: instead of "give me your details and I will call you", it is "give me 3 details and I will give you a price". Data from our projects shows that between 15-25% of users who see the calculator complete the flow and close a quote without a prior call.
