The challenge
The previous purchase flow had too many steps: mandatory account, duplicate address registration, confusing shipping methods. Cart abandonment was high.
What we did
We chose WordPress + WooCommerce for Candele Vive because the shop has a small-to-medium catalogue (dozens of references, not thousands) and the owner needed to publish products, manage stock and update prices herself without touching code. WooCommerce on WordPress gives full catalogue control, native Stripe integration for payments in Spain, and a plugin ecosystem (ACF Pro for custom fields, Rank Math Pro for SEO) that covers every requirement without custom development.
Custom template with a warm palette (terracotta, cream, beige) to convey the warmth of the artisan product without looking like yet another WooCommerce shop. ACF Pro let us add custom fields to each product card: aromatic notes with iconography, burn time, weight, materials and a detail photo gallery. Every product card is unique and SEO-optimised with Product schema including price, availability and reviews — the warm WooCommerce design that converts ecommerce, applied to a 50-product catalogue.
WordPress WooCommerce guest checkout simplified: the customer buys as a guest without being forced to create an account (which was the main abandonment driver on the previous site), the form keeps to the minimum fields (name, email, address and payment method), and shipping calculation is clear and transparent from the first screen with GLS and Mondial Relay as options. The Stripe plugin processes card payments and Apple Pay / Google Pay. Cart abandonment dropped 38% versus the previous shop — a WooCommerce store with Spain payment gateway configured end-to-end for the local audience.
Backoffice with the Gutenberg visual editor so the owner publishes products alone: she creates the product in the editor, uploads photos, fills in ACF fields (aromatic notes, burn time), sets price and stock and publishes. Average time to publish a new product: under 10 minutes. Per-product SEO automated with Rank Math Pro (title, description, schema) plus an XML sitemap refreshed on every change. Reusable pattern: WooCommerce for small artisan shop and WooCommerce for 50 products without complexity remains the best choice for small-to-medium shops in Spain that need a backoffice the client can maintain alone.

Frequently asked technical questions
- Is WooCommerce suitable for a small shop with under 100 products?
- Yes, WooCommerce is ideal for small and medium shops with fewer than 500-1,000 products. Below that threshold, WooCommerce on WordPress is more flexible and economical than Shopify: full catalogue control, native Stripe integrations for Spain, SEO plugins like Rank Math Pro, and a backoffice maintainable by the client without a developer. For shops with more than 1,000 references or marketplaces, Shopify or a custom solution start to pay off.
- How do you simplify the WooCommerce checkout to reduce abandonment?
- Four levers to reduce abandonment in WooCommerce checkout: enable guest checkout (without forcing registration), reduce fields to the minimum (only name, email, address, payment), integrate fast payment methods (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal), and show the shipping calculation from the first screen without surprises on the last step. With these four things abandonment usually drops 20-40% compared to a standard WooCommerce checkout.
- WordPress + WooCommerce or Shopify for an artisan shop?
- For small-to-medium artisan shops (under 500 products) WooCommerce on WordPress offers more control, better technical SEO (configurable Product schema, Rank Math Pro), and a backoffice maintainable by the owner without a developer. Shopify is better for shops that prioritise absolute ease over personalisation: unlimited stock, multi-channel, dropshipping. For a shop with a strong brand identity that wants to rank organically, WooCommerce still wins.
- How do I integrate Stripe into WooCommerce in Spain?
- Stripe is integrated into WooCommerce by installing the official Stripe for WooCommerce plugin, which enables card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay and local methods like Bizum or SEPA Direct Debit. For Spain it is important to configure correctly: EUR currency, Spanish checkout language, compatible shipping methods (GLS, Mondial Relay, Correos Express), and issue invoices compliant with GDPR and Spanish regulations. The plugin is free, Stripe charges 1.5% + 0.25€ per transaction.
- How much does it cost to maintain a WooCommerce shop per year?
- At Sincronía, the Ecommerce maintenance plan costs 150€/month. It is separate from the project price and hosting. The proposal confirms the contracted scope and hosting cost; domain and payment gateway fees depend on their providers. We do not present a fixed annual total without knowing these items and the applicable terms.
